Shipston won toss and opted to bat. Steve Gainsley and Sam Dexter opened up with the latter displaying a substantial portfolio of shots including two glorious sixes over extra cover!!
Umpire Cornock removed Stevie G (2) from the field who was stumped leaving Dexter to continue batting like his spiritual twin, Jonny Bairstow!
With his maiden century looming, Sam perished for 89, a great knock that set the tone! Joshua Gibb (65) continued in the same vein to register his first half century for the club. The pair were ably supported by Ollie” lead boots” Windebank (17), Charlie Coyle (6) and powerful cameos from Matt Pratt (21) and Julian Morris (55) as Shipston set a challenging 274-8 target for their hosts.
274 is normally a par score at Winchcombe so Shipston knew Bayshill meant business when their openers put on a century stand!
The London roaders used 9 bowlers in total. All the juniors bowled well, aiming to bowl full lengths. Bernie Spratt (1-23) pulled off a glorious one handed caught and bowled and with 10 overs left Bayshill required 100 with one of their openers remaining set and scoring freely!
Skipper Morris turned to Matt Pratt who bowled with guile, a little swing and produced figures of 4-21 from his 8 overs, keeping one end very quiet for the visitors. However, runs came freely at the other end to leave 26 required from the last over with a very short leg side boundary! meaning the game was firmly in the balance. Josh Gibb (0-31) bowled a full length that included a superb yorker, thwarting the Bayshill opener who carried his bat for 147 not out.
Huge credit must go to Ollie Windebank who kept wicket for 40 overs and left nothing on the field!
Well done to the kindergarten cops!! A great team effort!!
